China Mobile Tethered UAV High-altitude Base Station and Emergency Communication System

In recent years, with the development of communication technology, computer technology, microelectronics technology and the huge impact of large-scale natural disasters, the demand for emergency communication is more urgent, so the study of emergency communication system is of great significance. Let's get together to understand the UAV emergency communication system and China Mobile high-altitude base station!

Tethered UAV Emergency Communication System
The tethered multi-rotor UAV communication base station is a new communication technology with the development of multi-rotor UAV technology, which improves people's ability to deal with various natural disasters and reduces the losses caused by disasters.

In natural disasters such as flood, earthquake, debris flow, fire, snow disaster, sandstorm and so on, and in the case of the wired communication network is destroyed, the use of the tethered multi-rotor UAV communication system can quickly establish a new communication system and then contact with the disaster area at the fastest speed to ensure the smooth progress of the rescue work.

As an emergency communication platform, the tethered UAV can completely solve the problem of paralysis of the mobile communication base station during disasters. It can be equipped with various communication loads such as AD hoc radio, cluster micro-base station, and micro-base station through the tethered multi-rotor UAV communication system to form a variety of flexible communication application configuration methods and quickly open communication services in the core areas of disaster areas.

At the same time, a large area covering the emergency communication network with ultrashort wave communication of 40km and broadband video communication of 10km is formed among the rear emergency response center, the on-site headquarters and emergency rescue team.

The aerial part of the emergency communication base station consists of a high-altitude carrier carrying the base station equipment, the base station antenna and the air-ground connection equipment. And among them, the high-altitude carrier is the tethered UAV. The base station equipment is a wired transmission mode, and the air part is fixed to the carrier through the tether cable.

And the ground part is composed of the ground control system, the transmission equipment for connecting the UAV to the ground, and the ground transmission equipment for connecting with the core network. The ground transmission equipment connected to the core network can be the optical fiber transmission equipment or the transmission equipment connected to the core network through satellites.

At the same time, the tethered UAV is powered by the ground generator, which can achieve 24 hours of uninterrupted flying. The system can be loaded by trucks, ships and other platforms, supporting manual control mode and automatic control mode.

China Mobile Tethered Drone High-altitude Base Station
China Mobile has carried out the test of tethered UAV emergency high-altitude base station in many places, and achieved good test results. The UAV emergency high-altitude base station can cover up to 50 square kilometers and provide instant messaging for 5,400 mobile phone users at the same time.

It can quickly take off to 100 meters in 5 minutes, and provide VoLTE and data services and other communication guarantees for disaster areas for 24 hours without interruption. It has the characteristics of rapid response, convenient operation, flexible coverage, long hovering time, and strong scalability.

The maturity of UAV technology and its combination with emergency communication provide a new, faster and more convenient means for operators to restore communication in disaster areas.

The tethered UAV will bring more benefits in the emergency communication aspect, which can add a sense of security to the people in the disaster areas under the force majeure environment.
